Basic Layout, Calendar Views

Familiarity plays a big role in shrinking the learning curve for any software product. Very subtle graphical components that make the interface look more like a bound paper calendar can instantly give a novice user clues about how to switch views, how to navigate "pages", and how to create new items inline on a page.

Keeping the cosmetics of the application relatively monochromatic and subtle serves to illuminate the user's data. Overly colorful icons and page backgrounds just make most data harder to read

Tasks and Web Content

One of the great benefits of using a digital calendar is that you can provide integration with content and features from all over the web. These screenshots show a "pull-out tab" concept that allows users to run other mini-applications within their calendar. Any schedule-sensitive information like Tasks, Fitness Schedules, Diet Tracking, Personal Journals, and TV Schedules can be displayed in on of those pull-out tabs.

Another great opportunity for integration and great use of standards is created by these pull-out tabs. With one or two clicks a user could select any properly tagged item from a tab (a TV Show for example) and add it to their calendar with full categorization and reminders.
